The Butternut Community Police Center opened in December 2009. It was requested by participants in Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today (TNT) Northside planning councils who saw the need for a facility that would help stabilize a challenged neighborhood and provide a safe space for children and adults.

The Center’s evolving programs include youth recreation, arts and crafts, trips to sporting events, homework assistance, summer camps and field trips, and the ability to talk with a police offi cer who knows the neighborhood and works to establish relationships with the diverse communities in the immediate area.

The Northside has historically welcomed generations of many nations. It’s been home to immigrants from Italy, Germany, Southeast Asia, and more recently, Somalia, Sudan, Burundi, Nepal, Bhutan – all around the globe. The Northside is growing in population and diversity and the Center needs to grow with it.
